The
owner:
My name is Rev. J.C. Buys, a retired minister of the Reformed Church.
We descended from a nation with a Calvinistic outlook on life. With this
attitude we try to give honour to God on all spectrums of life. Therefore
our name Dopper Boerboele (see more about it in the homepage). I am happily
married with Elsabe, a great hand in this breeding. We have six children
and 12 grandchildren. We live in Parys in the Freestate Province, on the
banks of the Vaalriver.
History: As a child I grew up with Boerboele. I cannot imagine my life without
them. In those early days the old people inbreeded the Boerboele with
other dogs. I dislike it and believe that you must rather improve a
race by keeping it pure.
From
the early eighties, when I lived in the North Eastern Cape Province,
the Mecca of the Boerboele, I did a lot of research on this racel. I
was trying to find an excellent breeding male until I found Kringkop
Ditsem. I imported him from the Cape Province. I did not realize then
that he would become such a legend. He is the ancestor of many outstanding
bloodlines. I.e the father of the legendary Dopper Oubaas (Bottom right).
Breeding is a commitment of a lifetime and success do not come quickly
or easy. We are obviously more satisfied now than decades ago when I
received my first Boerboel, but there is still a lot to be done.
About
us: Dopperboerboele want to discriminate us from most of the other
breeders in the sense that we tried from the beginning to breed genetically
pure dogs. It is not a new issue for Dopper Boerboele. Nowadays most
of the breeders are aware of genetically transferable diseases like
hip dysplasia, hiperplacia, ectropion, entropion etc. Some of these
culprits ended many potential breeder's careers. These are indeed very
difficult diseases to cope with and not one breeder in the world can
as yet claim that he breed dogs which are genetically free of these
diseases. We have to give away "excellent" dogs several times
in the early days due to some of the above-mentioned diseases. We achieve
a lot but still working hard to get Dopper Boerboele genetically pure
from these diseases. It costs us a lot of money and tears therefore
we understand the frustation and growing pains of young upcoming breeders.
Thankfully
we can say that all our breeding males and most of the females have
a hip status of not worse than 1/1. All the females are tested for hiperplacia
and none have any of the above mentioned eye diseases. Dopperboerboele
do not breed with dogs with visible genetic defects.
Some
scientists say that 50% of the dog development depends on the owners
care. Nutrition, environment and exercise (balance) of the puppy are
very important for the development of the hips. Therefore a Boerboel
owner cannot blame the breeder of the dog if things go wrong and the
owner him/herself did not look after the puppy properly. We try to breed
the best Boerboele in the world and therefore we give some after sale
services. A friendly invitation to every Boerboel lover to contact us
on issues or questions about this great breed. We will try our best
to assist you. To breed with Boerboele is not for everyone. Guts and
commitment are necessary. Our success would not be possible without
the grace of the God.
Boerboel greetings
Rev.
